US Top Charts
Firstly I looked at the top 200 free and top 200 paid iPhone apps in the US.
There’s a large range in the number of languages these apps support:
Max Languages - 54
Min Languages - 1
Avg Languages - 8.9
Median Languages - 3
Some apps support 54 languages! With the average being around 9 and median 3.
As you would expect all 400 apps supported English. 273 (68%) supported Chinese.
Then between 150-200 supported the next tier of Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Korean.
Assuming these top app developers know what they are doing ????we have a good list of languages to look at.
Which Languages?
Tier 1 (Must Do)
- English
- Chinese
Tier 2 (Should Do)
- Spanish
- German
- French
- Japanese
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Korean
Tier 3 (Consider These)
- Turkish
- Dutch
Tier 4 (I’m Candy Crush)
- All the rest
How do I do this translation you speak of?
Luckily there are a few (thousand) services to help you with this.
1 – Spending (and best results)
The companies I have had success with in the past are:
But there are many more out there, Google away.
2 – I’m Cheap (ok results)
You can also use Fiverr. Results can vary and you will need to track down each language yourself. But it can be a bit cheaper.
3 – I Ain’t Got No Dollars (Don’t Do This!)
Some people try to get away with Google Translate. I’d recommend you don’t bother translating if this is the way you decide to go.
